Together we can maintain Equal Rights for All Californians

Today our California state constitution guarantees that everyone is treated equally and everyone is able to enjoy fundamental freedoms like the freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the freedom to marry.

Today in California it is not constitutional to single out long-term, committed gay or lesbian couples or to deny them the same rights as married heterosexual couples. ESTATE PLANNING benefits such as pension benefits, inheriting a share of your spouse's estate, receiving an exemption from both estate taxes and gift taxes for all property you give or leave to your spouse, creating life estate trusts that are restricted to married couples, rights to emergency medical visitation and decision-making -- are all rights afforded by the state through marriage. The constitution reflects what most Californians believe:  the laws, rules, protections and freedoms guaranteed to all Californians should apply equally to all Californians.  But now there is a Constitutional Amendment on the ballot in November (Proposition 8) that is designed to rewrite the state constitution to specifically exclude gay and lesbian couples from the fundamental freedom to have the same rights afforded heterosexual couples.

Preventing and Responding to
Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

July 17, 2008
| 8:30 am Breakfast and Registration | 9:00 am – 11:00 am Program
Cooley Godward Kronish  4401 Eastgate Mall, San Diego | 858/550-6000

California law (AB 1825) mandates at least two hours of supervisor training on sexual harassment prevention at companies with 50 or more employees. For some companies, on-site training is expensive, especially if the company has only a limited number of supervisors.

Cooley will be hosting training at our offices in an effort to provide "catch-up" training for newly promoted supervisors and for those who may have missed past training sessions. We invite you to send supervisors in need of training to this program.

Like our client-site training sessions, this cost-effective seminar is designed to help you meet all the new legal requirements.
