BIOCOM Cell Culture Exhibit
Cell Culture: An artistic exhibit featuring microscopic research from the Southern California life science community.
BIOCOM and the Southern California life science community present Cell Culture. Featuring various pieces of art from Southern California life science research institutions and companies, the vibrant artwork gives a visual representation of the research that over 100,000 life science employees in Southern California use in creating new cures for diseases and to help save the environment. The collection of images includes sophisticated computer models of the molecular machinery that makes life itself possible, images taken using high power laser and electron microscopes to probe the microscopic processes inside cells and tissues, and stem cells that may one day allow for the repair and regeneration of damaged and diseased organs.
The traveling exhibit was first unveiled at the San Diego International Airport, where it was on display in Terminal Two from June through December 2008, and viewed by approximately eleven million airport visitors, including attendees of the 2008 BIO International Convention. More recently, it was on display at various San Diego Public Libraries in conjunction with the 2009 San Diego Science Festival. Next stop: various schools and science classrooms.
