Honoring Veterans’ Talent in the Workplace
Welcoming veterans into your organization isn’t just a noble gesture; it’s a strategic advantage. The skills and experiences gained through military service are invaluable assets that translate seamlessly into the professional realm. Veterans bring unique leadership, problem-solving and teamwork capabilities, fostering a diverse and resilient work culture. Their adaptability, commitment, and discipline are unparalleled, enriching any team they join. Hiring veterans is not only a gesture of gratitude for their service but a smart business decision. As we celebrate Veterans Day this month, we would like to congratulate our 2023 Veterans in Life Sciences Fellowship cohort. If your company is seeking individuals who are mission-driven and have the leadership skills to move your organization forward, please consider hiring a veteran.

Life Science Workforce Symposium Highlights
On October 26, 2023, Biocom California Institute marked a significant milestone by simulcasting our annual Workforce Symposium across three key regions: San Diego, Greater Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. This event brought together veterans, service members, and individuals from underrepresented populations seeking opportunities and career transitions in the life science industry.
Notable speakers from various industry leaders shared insights, with keynote speaker Austin Hamilton, an EH&S Specialist II at Thermo Fisher Scientific and a former U.S. Army specialist, emphasizing the importance of embracing discomfort and taking risks to foster growth. Networking was highlighted as a powerful resource for career transitions.
Job seekers were reminded that enthusiasm, curiosity, and thorough preparation are key factors in job hunting and interviews. Despite the competitive job market, attendees were encouraged not to lose hope, as they might be closer to a breakthrough than they think. The symposium served as a valuable platform for networking, learning, and empowerment within the life science workforce. See more highlights here.
