Celebrating Earth Day with Back-to-Back Events Along the Coast
We were proud to welcome members to our statewide Earth Day celebrations this month—an annual opportunity to unite the life science community in environmental awareness and action. We heard from experts as they explored sustainable innovation in life science, offering compelling industry outlooks on collective action and tangible impact for both small and large companies. In the Bay Area, we hosted a panel on fostering a circular mindset and reducing waste, with novel approaches in recycling lab plastics and supply-chain management. In San Diego, our 8th annual Earth Day Sustainability Reception included a keynote from Thermo Fisher Scientific, followed by a lively panel discussion featuring representatives from Pfizer, My Green Lab, Veolia North America, I Love a Clean San Diego, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Novartis.

Biocom California Hosts Roundtable with ARPA-H
On April 4, Biocom California hosted a roundtable with the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) Director Renee Wegrzyn and her team. San Diego life science companies, research institutes and universities had the unique opportunity to meet with the newest federal agency to discuss its research funding model and engage directly with high-level ARPA-H officials. The popular event was at maximum capacity with over 40 attendees.

Roundtable with South San Francisco Mayor & Vice Mayor
On March 7, Biocom California held a roundtable with South San Francisco Mayor James Coleman, Vice Mayor Eddie Flores and the city’s economic development team to discuss city and life science industry priorities. A variety of issues were covered, including workforce housing, access to transit, future life science developments and city services. LA Mayor Delivers State of the City Address
In her State of the City address, LA Mayor Karen Bass spoke on the city’s budget shortfall and upcoming Olympic Games, but focused mostly on addressing homelessness. She unveiled LA4LA, a capital campaign aiming to raise $400 million through public-private partnerships to build housing and expand services for the homeless population. Mayor Bass emphasized the urgency of addressing the crisis and called for community support to create sustainable solutions for those in need.

Sorrento Valley Coaster Shuttle Service to Continue
On April 18, the North County Transit District (NCTD) Board of Directors unanimously approved continuing shuttle service from the Sorrento Valley Coaster station to area employers, and to UTC and Mira Mesa. Biocom California was present to speak in support of the item, and NCTD praised our advocacy efforts around this issue. This is an important transit win for life science employees and helps all stakeholders reach their climate goals.
